BDA Diagnostics & Repair
When a BDA system is not operating as designed, the issue is often discovered by the building's fire alarm system reporting an error, a first responder during an emergency or a Fire Marshal or inspector during an inspection. Our specialized BDA Doctor Technicians conduct a comprehensive system evaluation, including reviewing the BDA's programming, onsite infrastructure, and available system documentation. Following our evaluation, we can typically diagnose the root cause and develop a systematic path to resolution with client approval. Whether the solution requires component replacement, reprogramming or tuning, system repairs, or full replacement, our team is equipped to bring your BDA system back to health.

BDA Proactive Maintenance
As with any required critical life safety system, proactive monitoring and preventative maintenance of a BDA is typically simpler and more cost-effective than addressing an unexpected failure. Our specialized BDA Doctor Technicians conduct comprehensive and required annual system evaluations, including a review of programming, examination of onsite infrastructure including headend equipment, transmission line runs and antennas, and available system documentation, both on site and on file with the authorities. Rather than waiting for a failed inspection or emergency, we can offer a proactive approach so your property is not hit with several issues at once or potential code violations. We maintain detailed records of information gathered onsite, ensuring our team is better prepared to respond quickly and effectively when an issue arises. Proactive maintenance also allows potential issues to be identified and addressed in advance, giving clients more control over timing, budgeting, and planning while allowing any necessary parts or repairs to be coordinated with minimal disruption.

Code Required Retransmission/SLA
Once a BDA system is installed and approved by the local authorities, local Code typically requires an annual Retransmission Agreement or similar with a qualified BDA service provider. This agreement designates a company, such as Signal's BDA Doctor Team, as a local contact for performing necessary repairs, proactive maintenance, and any annual or 5 year recertification requirements. Many jurisdictions require annual inspection documentation and/or a 20' x 20' grid scan report to verify the system continues to operate in accordance with applicable Code requirements, which we include in every Retransmission Agreement.

BDA Doctor Tech vs. a typical Fire Alarm technician
While a BDA system connects to the fire alarm system for monitoring purposes, it is a separate, specialized system that requires specific knowledge, tools, and expertise. While some fire alarm technicians may have BDA experience, many are not equipped to perform the same level of in-depth diagnostics as a specialized BDA Doctor Technician.
